July has been such a bizarre mixture of busy, relaxing, hot, fun and boring. Ha! We could have experienced all of those things just in one morning.
One thing Gideon is really good at is independent play. The dude can entertain himself for hours. I don't even know what he does with his time but he's usually busy tinkering with something. We have been spending our July mornings out back while it's still cool after baby goes down for his morning nap. We garden, play chalk, ride his cars and I sip coffee on the rocking chair while he bug hunts. I love our mornings at home.
We've also had plenty of adventures and I'm glad to get them out of the house too and spend time with friends and learning or exploring something new. It's so dang hot though so I'm worn out by the end of it and can't wait for the fall to try to zoo and parks again. Here's all our July pics so far:
Is this not he Fitbit of a mom? NO ACTIVE MINUTES (like an actual walk or work out) yet somehow I still got in over 12,000 steps and almost 5.5 miles ha!
This about sums up a house of boys! Wrestling or waiting in line to be wrestled
We had a really nice 4th of July with friends and family. We spent the morning at a friend's pool, had a picnic lunch and played. We left pretty tired from some 2 year old meltdowns but overall the pool, food and friends was a blast! After naps, Ryan's parents came over for dinner and sparklers. We grilled steaks, made smashed red potatoes and gobbled patriotic cupcakes for dessert.
This is one of our favorite views. Ryan and I always say we could sit on their back patio all day and just enjoy the view
Gideon had his fill of Popsicles, brownies and sugar on the 4th
George wears his American flag shirt every 4th-it's tradition! And Gid thought sparklers and poppers were the absolute best!
The rest of the month we've been hanging out by the kiddie pool, going on walks, Giddy adventured to some parks with his Gram, and we get out our creative bins and art supplies most afternoons.
One other activity that's been blessing me is my weekly Bible study with some of my favorite women. We're reading "Out of the Spin Cycle" by Jen Hatmaker and our discussions are so so life-giving every week. With this same group of women, I'm also participating in an online daily devotional. If you don't have it, download the app First5. It's a Proverbs31 Ministry tool and it's literally a 5 minute devotional and scripture tool. We created a group on the app so we can post our thoughts on the devotional, what we're learning and as accountability, take a picture of our quiet time and encourage one another to do the same. Just what we all need in our young motherhood journeys!
I'm so blessed by this group of women and the encouragement this summer! I can't wait to keep it going in the fall and get back into MOPS in September too. I miss those weekly rhythms that the fall brings.
Giddy and his Poppy girl lounging on the back deck
Last Saturday we went to Catfest and it was so fun. Gideon LOVES cats and kittens so he thought it was like the best morning ever.
Giddy was so gentle with the kitties
My sweet Giddy was so sick earlier this week. He had a fever of 103 and no energy at all. If you know Gideon you know that if he never stops moving. I soaked up all the cuddles and my sweet sleepy toddler.
He still wasn't feeling awesome the next day but he was restless at home so we headed to Chick-Fil-A for Cow Appreciation Day. He got free ice cream on top of his free meal because they thought he was so cute
We are starting potty training soon! I bought him some big boy undies that he found before I intended and LOVED them! He wears them over his diapers now ha! On the right, two sweet boys surveying their backyard kingdom
We went to open gym and Baby had a great time practicing his crawling. Gid was barely still enough for me to get a picture. He jumped into the foam pit, ran on the tramp and was a wild man!
Last Saturday morning with my boys
This was my morning today-a quiet time, a plate of fresh snacks and coffee and no toddler or babies needing me. Ahhhhh sweet relaxation!
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
