Gideon 18 Month Update

Age:  18 months old! This LITTLE BOY is just magical.  Sometimes I stare at him and wonder how such a sweet, wonderful little human is ours.  The best words I can use to describe Gideon include: curious, brave, independent, loving, bright, social, tender, fierce, and helpful.

We love to see his vocabulary increase, how he kisses his baby foster brother, the explosion of happiness that happens when he sees a cupcakes, and how every playground is his personal mountain to conquer.  What a love bug!

Weight: 24.5 lbs

Length: 32.5 inches

Sizes (diapers, onesies):  Size 5 diapers, 18-24 month and some 2T clothes. Size 5-6 shoe.

Eyes:  Blue

Hair: Red and mostly straight.  He's due for another haircut soon which he tolerates well.  His hair is so soft and of course one of my favorite features about him

Sleeping: The 18 month sleep regression is death!!!!  Pray for us, pray for all of the angels to minister to us every morning at 5:00 am and rescue us from this trial!  Just kidding.  This boy usually sleeps 7:00 pm to 6:30/7:00 am solid.  But over the last week he has been getting up at 5:00 with a fiery passion in his heart to wake up all the neighbors and have a party.  It's so hard to have a sleep regressor in an apartment (our neighbors love to bang on the ceiling, which is helpful).  He takes one nap around noon for about 1.5-2 hours.  Overall he is a good sleeper and we hope he gets back to that soon

Eating: Gideon is all about using utensils to feed himself.  In the morning I set him up with sliced grapes and a bowl of yogurt and he goes to town!  He loves to feed stab fruits and veggies with his fork and feed himself bowls of cereal or applesauce with a spoon.  He officially weaned at 18 months and has gone about 3 days without nursing.  Go big kid!

Favorite foods: Grapes, CUPCAKES, vanilla yogurt, avocado, yogurt bites, goldfish crackers, bananas, raisins, french toast, and scrambled eggs

Milestones/Words:  He is gaining more words every week.  Wow, Uh-oh, Mama, Dada, Baby,  Bee, Teeth, Yellow, Amen, Hot, Ball, Bear, Blue, Dog, and Roar.  He reliably signs "more" and "all done". He also has 12 teeth and cutting 3 more.

This child is zooming all over the world with his new found love of walking!  His favorite thing in the world is to put on his new shoes, a jacket and just walk the neighborhood.  He shares, shows love to his favorite people, point to what he wants, shakes head "no", brushes his teeth, answers the phone, and loves watching Elmo or cat videos, ha!

Memorable outings:  Very memorable was going to Children's Hospital last month for a broken foot!  Poor guy had a blue cast on for 3 weeks.

Favorite toys/activities: He loves his bear, his Blue Blue and his Fluffernutter-he sleeps with all of them at nap and bedtime.  He loves his play vacuum, tools, taking off/putting on the lid to anything, and playing on mom's phone.  He also LOVES to be helpful.  He will take items to the trash can, clean with mom (he gets a baby wipe to clean his toys), walks, playdates, playing slime or play-doh, and cooking.

Nicknames:   Lou Lee, Lou, Little Love, Giddy Con Queso (from daddy), Giddy Lou Who (from Aunt Linny), Giddy Puff (from Aunt Linny), Giddy Face (from Maggie), Giddy Pantz (from Maggie)
The usuals...Giddy Bear, Giddy Up, Gid, Giddy, Itty Giddy Titty Monster with the tiny hiney, G (from Uncle Clint), Mister, Man Cub

Funny moments: This boy is the giggliest little boy who ever lived!!  He really cracks up if you can surprise him, play peek-a-boo, or tickle his feet or sides.  He laughs constantly throughout the day with brings us so much joy!

Looking forward to: I can't wait to enjoy spring with Gideon.  There are so many walks, parks, playgrounds, and open spaces we will enjoy.  I love that he's so interactive and curious so hikes and camping will be a lot of fun this year!  This little boy loves to be outside so I can't wait for him to be this age and soak up a Colorado spring

Baby Boy 2 Month Update

Age: 2 months

What a difference a month makes.  This little man has seen a lot of life in his 8 weeks.  He is the most alert he has been and LOVES faces.  Give him a toy, he doesn't care.  BUT smile up close and talk to him, he's in heaven! He has the sweetest disposition, the fieriest love for his bottle, and the unquenchable need to be snuggled all day which our moms happily comply to :)

Weight: 12 lbs.  YOU. GUYS.  He has gotten so plump!  Such a mighty warrior this kid is!

Length: 22.5 inches

Sizes: I truly cannot believe how much he's grown.  He's in size 1 diapers and 3 month clothes!  His thigh rolls are to die for.  We often just chant to him, "Cheeks and chins!  Cheeks and chins!"  That's all he is these days.

Eyes: Navy blue!  He has the most observant eyes and appears to really be examining and calculating his surroundings.  A smart little man for sure!

Hair: Red!!  It's still so beautiful and red.  I pray every minute of my life it stays that color :)

Sleeping:  He has improved dramatically in this department.  He very recently started giving us 3-4 hour chunks once per night and then he's up every 2-2.5 hours after that.  He naps well during the day.  We got him a Rock n' Play to help with his reflux and he likes to be in that all swaddled up.

Eating: Every 2-4 hours 4-6 oz each time.  He still loves his soft NICU nipples so we just go with it and make sure to sanitize the heck out of them. He does spit up a lot so he's taking 0.5 mL of Zantac.

Milestones/Words: He's starting cooing and saying "Haaa-guuu".  Which of course means, "I love you and you're my favorite person!".  He smiles for Ryan or I which is entirely heart melting.  His neck strength is something to behold.  He likes to accidentally bat his overhead toys in his gym while he's laying down and loves to track Gideon across the room when he's seated upright.

Memorable Outings:  He spent 1 week at Children's for RSV which was horribly memorable.  He has also had two sleepovers with my mom, adventured to the park and zoo, and has become a crowd favorite at my MOPS group.  Last week my group prayed for foster mamas/babies which was a real gift to us and something that I will always remember.

Favorite toys/activities:  Being held, being rocked, being patted, laying over someone's knees to help his belly aches.  He seems to love the bath still and the lavender lotion massage that follows.

Funny Moments: This one involves Gideon.  Whenever Baby Boy starts crying and we are in the process of getting to him, Gideon can usually beat us there.  So Gid has started, on his own initiative, grabbing Baby's pacifier or bottle and putting it in his mouth for us!  It is absolutely so cute!!  Sometimes, Gid's aim is a little off but Baby Boy is very patient with the pokes to the forehead and cheeks too.

Looking forward to:  More of those 4 hour chunks of sleep!!!  And taking this baby to our favorite spring hikes, camping this summer, backyard playing in our new house, and just seeing his sweet personality continue to blossom.

Valentine's Day & Other Things

It's been a busy two weeks of adventures, court dates, visitations, playdates and work.  Just need to update with some pics so I don't forget!

Also, we went under contract with a house here in Colorado just last night!  We have been hunting pretty intensely and found our house quickly.  The house is the perfect size, a big yard, and plenty of potential to be pretty after we get our hands on it.

It's a tough market here due to popularity of EVERYONE and their moms wanting to live in Colorado, but Ryan made a great call on the offer we put in, our offer was accepted and we close late March!  I can't wait to post renovation photos and start a new chapter there.

Here are some photos of our days lately...

While I worked Friday, Ryan, my mom and the boys hit the Denver Zoo.  It was 80 degrees!

This peanut napped most of the zoo day but he still loved to get out

This guy has hit the 18 month sleep regression with a vengeance.  So we have a lot of early mornings together which usually results in smoothie making.  He's a big helper

Sunday morning Gid had us all to himself while Baby Boy had a sleepover with my mom.  We made breakfast and went on a long walk.  And even found a bulldozer for Gid to sit in!

CO weather is so amazing-it was a pleasant Sunday afternoon last week so we went out for a walk

This guy just loves to help.  Grocery store trips are so fun right now for #1 A free cookie from the bakery #2 Riding in the shopping cart #3 Penny horse rides after checkout

Morning daddy snuggles

This precious boy is rocking his life right now!!  He is getting SO plump.  He was about 4th percentile for height and weight when he was born and struggled with a lot of health issues.  Now at almost 8 weeks old he is closing in on 11 lbs putting him in the 25th percentile!  We love his cheeks, chins, and rolls!

Today we went to a Valentine's Day party!  We had breakfast, painted canvases, made salt play dough hand prints, and played hard.  It was an exciting morning of fun!

All the girls and all their babies-mostly everyone is in pink or red which is just so sweet

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

Life in February

Woohoo it's February and I'm getting a blog post up!  That is a miracle.

I am IN AWE of people who have multiples that are the same age or children super close in age.  Giddy and Baby Boy are 16 months apart and it's beyond sweet in some ways and unbelievably hard in others.

They are both super dependent on us so if someone is sad it's almost impossible to comfort both well.  On the other hand both are in sweet stages: Baby Boy is such a cuddly nugget.  Gideon is learning new words and getting smarter by the minute

All that to say, we are learning, tired and blessed.

So Baby Boy update:  He was released from the hospital January 30th THANK GOODNESS!  He came home on oxygen. RSV just wrecked this kid but he was so brave.  I cried right along with him several times when he was getting deep suctioned or had a Flight for Life nurse miss the IV twice (this mama got real bossy and demanded they stop the pokes and leave him alone for awhile).

We are happy he is home, healthy and officially off O2 Tuesday!

The rest of our life is chaotic in this season.  Two little boys keep you on your toes :)  Here are some pics of our February life:

JJ and Gid exploring the back porch.  Matching bellies, matching sweetness

Oh yum, chalk!

This kid has been cruising everywhere.  He loves to walk to the park, at the store, and always feels like such a big kid

Family walk to the best open space and park near our house.  The last few weeks of Colorado winter weather has been bliss-some cold but plenty of spring-like days

This kid!  Smiles, fiercely independent, smart, and curious

On Monday we had a Zoo day to enjoy the incredible weather.  Penny, Gideon, and Chloe were nursing school baby-friends!

Ashley, Amanda and I were all preggo in school together and all birthed our sweet littles within 4 months of each other.  I love still seeing these women now as nurses and mom

It's not a post without this little bugaboo!  I always thought girls would be more fun to dress, but boys can be pretty fun too.  Especially with bandana bibs and dark wash jeans, swoon!

Well that is life for us in February, at least what I have time to capture.

I'm still loving getting to work as a nurse-still full time with a pediatric patient in home health and love it.  Ryan was just hired by an Engineering Consulting company.  He had a really neat connection to the President of the company-this man mentors students on summer mission projects with the organization that Ry and I were involved with in college.  Ryan is an insanely good fit for the job with his education background and research in drinking water.  He gets started in March!

We are also house hunting here in Colorado (aye yi yi, what a market) so will have pics of that too when/if we end up with one!

We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.
